Welcome back for a new beauty product review. This time I’m going to give you guys my honest opinion on the NEW and long awaited Lip Glosses from Urban Decay. The full name of this product is the Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lip Gloss.

This product can be purchased from Sephora’s Website or from Urban’s Decay official Website for the price of C$26 (0.17oz)

There are a total of 14 different lip glosses in this collection that range from nudes to pinks, reds and purples. You can chose between a selection of creamy and/or glittery lip glosses. The colours that contain glitter are Vice (dark purple with glitter), Big Bang (bright pink with glitter) and Assasin ( red-pink with glitter). Unfortunately, I did not purchase any of the glittery shades so I cannot review them for you.

The packaging for this products, according to Urban Decay, was designed to be pocket friendly. I really don’t know why they chose this approach because most of us, ladies, carry at least a clutch if not a full size bag. Needless, to say that at least for me a “pocket friendly” lip gloss is pretty useless.

I like the fact that it comes in a clear tube that makes it very easy to see the colour inside. That’s always a plus when you can’t decide on a single colour! On one side of the tube you have engraved in capital letters the name of the collection – “REVOLUTION”. The cap is made out of plastic and has a gun metal colour with the letters UD on it. Also, I would like to add that the packaging feels sturdy and lightweight.

First Impression

Something that hit me the minute I opened the lip glosses was the smell. It has a heavy smell of pharmaceutical drugs. It doesn’t linger on the lips and I got used to it after a couple of days, but if you are the type of girl that could be bothered by the smell, then, I do not recommend this product for you.

Urban Decay promotes the fact that the applicator is designed to pack on colour in one swipe. I beg the differ! The applicator feels stiff and it took me 2-3 applications to scoop the desired amount of lip gloss.

The formula is smooth and creamy. It’s not as pigmented as I would have expected it to be and it fades fairly quickly. I know a lip gloss does not usually have a long staying power but I was expecting it to leave at least a stain of some sort behind. If you eat or even drink water with a straw it will probably fade completely in about 30 min to an hour. I do not personally mind reapplying it, however for a high end product that, let’s be honest is not that affordable, I’m want a higher than average quality.

It doesn’t feel sticky when you first apply it, although after a couple of minutes you can feel the stickiness on your lips which I’m not a fain of.

My impression after 2 weeks

I’ve put this product up to many experiments to be able to give you guys an honest opinion and here it is.

It’s not as opaque as Urban Decay describes it. Yes, it is pigmented, don’t get me wrong, but it’s still more of a lip gloss than a lipstick and, it’s definitely not a lip stain.

I like the fact that you can build it up and it doesn’t feather out like most lip glosses. I’ve used it with and without a lip liner and it didn’t set in my fine lines. You can reapply it throughout the day as many times as you wish and it will still feel smooth and creamy on your lips. It keep my lips moisturized and they do look plump and nice.

On Urban Decay’s website they recommend using this product with their Ultimate Ozone Multipurpose Primer Pencil (C$19) applied all over your lips. I did not try it.  Maybe it does make a difference, but if I commit to purchase an already pricey product I don’t want to purchase another one just to make the first one work.

My tips

If you want a fully opaque application I recommend using a lipstick all over your lips then apply the Urban Decay Revolution Lip Gloss. I used the Kat Von D Studded Lipstick in combination with this lip gloss and It gave me the most pigmented application and shine. It lasted most of the day and I was happy with the result.

Another tip I can recommend, is to purchase the YSL Rouge Pur Couture (C$38) if you really want an opaque lip gloss that has an amazing staying power. I know it’s more pricey but at least you get the best results and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I have a “love-hate” relationship with the New Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lip Glosses. I know I can make it work, however I do not think it’s a good investment. There are so many other lip glosses out there (even drugstore ones) that are more affordable and have a much better quality. I love the colour range, but at the same time, I don’t like the fact that they are too sticky. They are really creamy, but don’t deliver a WOW pigmentation.

I hope my review was helpful and you guys where able to make a decision.

Please keep in mind that I purchased these lip glosses with my own money. I am not sponsored in any way and I do not promote any brand.

Everything you read on this blog is my hones opinion based on my experience.
