Greetings my makeup lovers! I know you have all been waiting for this review on the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour
Palette and yes, I tried to work on it as soon as possible. I knew it from the minute I first glanced at this beauty on Sephora’s website that this palette will be part of my “makeup kit essentials” and my bff for the rest of the year.
Let’s start with the packaging shall we?
This palette comes in a matte black rubbery material. The logo was hand-sketched by Kat Von D herself and designed in raised print with glossy gold spots that gives a magnificent 3D effect. It has a magnetic closure and a generous mirror. The palette seems pretty sturdy and I didn’t had any problems with it not closing correctly. As most of Kat Von D’s beauty products the design is gothic with baroque influences that makes a classy statement.
The eyeshadows are sectioned in three colour quads ranging from (right) neutral to (left) warm undertones. On top of the smaller eyeshadows lay the base eyeshadows that are considerably bigger in size and will probably last you a lifetime.
The base eyeshadows contain 0.08 oz/each of product and the rest of them are 0.04 oz/each.
A step-by-step eye contouring guide for 3 eye looks is included in the palette, which can come in handy for those who are just starting their journey in makeup artistry.
Formula and Finishes
These eyeshadows are highly pigmented and I haven’t experienced any fall-outs. They are all matte and have a creamy/buttery texture that makes the whole process of eye contouring a lot easier! Also, they are buildable so you are free to experiment with more intense or soft eye looks.
Please keep in mind that this palette, along with other Kat Von D beauty products, is cruelty free and does not contain any:
FYI: There is a Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush that is sold separately at Sephora for the price of C$35
Price and places to purchase
The price is C$55 + taxes and this palette can be purchased from Sephora’s website or in stores.
(from left to right)
As you can probably see Laetus and Luscius are not that visible because they match my skin tone but they are very creamy and pigmented so don’t you worry.
They are designed to perfectly match every skin tone! The first quad has a neutral undertone to it, the middle one a cool undertone and the last one, from the right, has a warm undertone. Also, this eye contouring palette offers you the possibility to go from a day look to a night look in seconds!
After playing with this palette my conclusion is that it’s a great investment! Perfect for beginners to professional makeup artists. It includes all the possible eyeshadow colours that can create a crease, accentuate eyes and contour. I will probably use some of the eyeshadows for face contouring as well. A palette that is essential in every makeup kit!
