Hello there, future brides.
This is going to be a little advice on how to go about hiring your makeup artist and how to plan the final makeup session with your makeup artist before your actual wedding day.
When to start researching for a makeup artist?
The perfect timing to start looking for your perfect makeup artist is about one year before your Wedding date. This will give you enough time to test the market and to schedule for a trial/consultation. Makeup Artists that have plenty of experience and are specialized in bridal makeup get booked fairly fast. You have to be prepared to maybe schedule more makeup artists for trials to see which one is convenient for your needs.
Where to look for makeup artists?
Most people use the internet to look for the best makeup artists in their proximity but that is not the only place you can research. Wedding Magazines can be a great source of information about makeup artists. Ask your photographer if he ever worked with a certain makeup artist or if he can recommend someone. Hair salon always collaborate with makeup artist so when you go get your new hair done you can definitely ask them. Also, ask your friends and family, you would be amazed of how much information you can gather from them!
How to chose the best makeup artist?
You can start by doing a list. Think about what you would look in a makeup artist. Are you looking for someone with a great personality that would make you relax and feel great on your wedding day? Because we all know a wedding can be really stressful. Is the makeup kit that the makeup artist uses important to you? Does he have to use vegan products? Cruelty free? Airbrush?Professional? Do you have any allergies? Does he have to have certain experience with photo shoots? Also, what is your budget? Would you afford hiring a celebrity makeup artist? Try to find the answers to all these questions to know exactly what you want and what are your demands. It will be much easier if your demands are clear and you can share them with your makeup artist when you first contact him/her. Don’t wait until the trial because maybe the makeup artist will not be prepare or he simply cannot offer you those services.
You budget is very important when you look for a makeup artist. Most of the time people want the cheapest service at a superior quality but they soon find out that that’s impossible. You have to be realistic and be prepared to expect what you payed for. If you are trying to look for a professional that offers you a Bridal Makeup Application at a 20$ cost then good luck. He will probably not use professional products, your makeup will likely last all day and it will surely not look good in pictures. Don’t forget that you are hiring an artist and you are paying for his talent and superior service and that doesn’t come cheap.
What to prepare for the trial/consultation?
Before your trial you should find and select some pictures with the makeup that you would prefer for your Wedding. Google has an array of makeup pictures that you can chose from. Try to think about how you want to style your hair as well and what jewelry you going to wear on your big day. All these information could help your makeup artist to visualize your final look and find the makeup that compliments your entire outfit and beauty. Tell him/her what you don’t like and if you have any skin problems or allergies (that’s important!). Collaboration, communication and respect is very important in your relationship with your makeup artist. At the end of the trial you will be given a contract in which, for legal reasons, are stated several information regarding prices, annulation, refund and other. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if something is not clear to you. If you have any changes to add to your makeup look please let your makeup artist know before your Wedding day. If you decide on a total change of look then you should schedule for another trial.
On your big day!!!!
The makeup artist will most probably be at your location earlier to settle in. He will probably start with you (the bride) and he will perform the same makeup that you decided upon during the trial. It is crucial for this day to NOT BE LATE! For every makeup look the makeup artist is going to have a certain amount of time and if someone is really late then he will not have enough time. It will be an emotional day for everyone but try to be respectful with your makeup artist and don’t expect him to do miracles. He will do his best!
Last but not least try to be happy! It’s your big day and you should enjoy it even if something is not perfect. Don’t forget that you are beautiful and you are celebrating the union with the love of your life.
I wish you all future brides out there all the love and happiness in the world and I really hope this post is going to help you in your quest for your perfect makeup artist.
